Dandelion Seeds in the Wind
I was frustrated. It seemed like there were too many huge problems in the world, and too few ways for a lone person like me to solve them. The negativity was too much and I was pretty sure I wouldn’t be a helpful voice on the scene. My typical way to lighten the mood is a classic mix of snark, self deprecation, and a touch of a certain type of campy humor that really only humors me. Oh, and elaborate, often self invented metaphors that usually leave people confused. Definitely not helpful.
I was so certain that there were people in the wider community that believed in teachers and believed in public education. I talked to teacher friends, and over and over the message I got was that they were feeling beaten down and weary. There had to be a way to encourage our teachers and strengthen our schools.
I was inspired by the idea of a dandelion. It’s bright, it’s hopeful, it’s persistent, and when it’s time to spread, the tiny seeds blow far and wide.
So here we are…on a platform that I never dreamed of, in a blog that no one asked for. I know there are huge issues in the world, but I’m going to try and spread the seeds of encouragement here in my corner. Hopefully they’ll spread to people who are inspired to join me.
